We offer a rich and diverse curriculum at Gaddesby Primary School. Our curriculum is designed to meet and ensure our children meet our school aims. Our curriculum is fully embedded and is taught through a range of enjoyable topics taking place across all year groups.
We ensure all of the children have a rich and broad curriculum, which is centred on developing and acquiring new knowledge and skills through a variety of subjects, such as; Science, Geography, History, Design and Technology, Art, PE, RE and PSHE.
The name of the phonics scheme that we use in EYFS and Year 1 is Letters and Sounds – however this is adapted to meet the needs of our pupils. All classes have five lessons of Maths and English each week, as well as reading lessons on daily basis. Our afternoons are organised into topic areas which are taught through a skills approach, we teach 4 larger topics throughout the school year.
The curriculum is enhanced further through residential trips in Years 2, 4 and 6. These trips give the children valuable learning experiences that can’t be replicated on site at school. In addition to residential trips, we offer an extensive range of day visits to places of interest throughout each year. These trips may include places such as; The National Space Centre, Cadbury’s World, Warwick Castle and New Walk Museum just to mention a few.

Each of our subjects has a coherently structured curriculum that runs from EYFS all the way to Year 6. It is taught on a two year rolling programme. Please see below the curriculum for each subject. Our English and Maths are taught using the national curriculum.
In English, the following progression documents are used by staff to support planning and ensure progression of skills and knowledge across our school.
Text Type Progression Document
In Maths the following progression document is used to support teachers long and medium-term planning of the curriculum.
In all foundation subjects the documents used follow a similar format and are used to inform long and medium-term planning.
These subjects are then planned for by teachers using long term plans to ensure full coverage of the curriculum across our topics.
Following on from this, teachers focus more on the delivery of the curriculum through their medium term planning and knowledge organisers for each topic area.
